United Sprinklers – Sprinkler Winterization Near Me

Sprinkler Winterization & Blowouts in Bingham Farms, MI

Bingham Farms is a small village—but a great area I service every season. Quick access off Telegraph (US-24) between 13 & 14 Mile means fast scheduling, whether you’re near Lahser, Franklin Rd, or the Beverly Hills/Birmingham borders.

I winterize both city-water and pump/well irrigation systems. My process is consistent and safe for blowouts/shutdowns: 50–60 PSI with high CFM, short passes per zone, and I leave the drain plug off or partially threaded so any weeping main shut-off drains out instead of back into your system. For city-water systems, the controller can stay ON; for pump/lake/well, I disable pump-start so the pump can’t run dry.

How I Winterize (My Method)

  1. Shut off & inspect — close the irrigation supply, check the backflow, find drains/low points, confirm zone order.
  2. Hook up safely — connect downstream of the backflow and run 50–60 PSI with high CFM. Volume moves water safely—no need to exceed that range.
  3. Zone-by-zone passes — farthest first; ~60–120 seconds until fine mist; pause between zones so parts don’t overheat.
  4. Backflow & drains — purge test cocks; open any manual drains; leave the drain plug off or partially threaded so a weeping shut-off can drain.
  5. Controller — City-water can stay ON. For pump/lake/well I disable pump-start.
  6. Winterizing Report — I leave a paper Sprinkler Winterizing Report and text notes (possible head/line issues, timer date/time, visible backflow/valve concerns). Because we run air (not pressurized water), not every issue presents in winter—spring start-up is when we fully test/fix.

FAQs

Controller on or off after a blowout/shutdown?
For city-water, it can stay ON. For pump/lake/well, I disable pump-start so the pump can’t run dry.
What PSI/CFM do you use for winterizing?
50–60 PSI with high CFM. Volume clears lines safely—no need to exceed that range.
Why leave the drain plug off or partially threaded?
If the main shut-off is weeping, water drains out through the plug instead of back into the system. Check the drain area in 24–72 hours; replace the shut-off if it’s still dripping.
